Being able to manage construction and renovation projects is a key component of success as a golf course superintendent. Almost every course has some sort of ongoing renovation or master plan as time goes on. I have been directly associated with numerous projects both large and small, with in-house staff and hired contractors.
I have had the chance to work directly with noted architect, Bill Coore, on large projects at Old Sandwich and Clear Creek Tahoe, including my full grow-in experience at Old Sanwich.I have the knowledge to handle almost any task a future club may desire.
At Clear Creek Tahoe we completely restored the course to championship conditions. It began with intense aerification, verticutting, and heavy topdressing of greens, tees, and fairways. We proceeded to restore 115 bunkers, and repaired irrigation that was in disarray. New tees were constructed and multiple fairways were expanded.
We also cleared acres of native vegetation to “open up” the playing corridors, provide a more enjoyable golf experience, and make the course more aesthetically pleasing.
The end result is a course that plays "firm & fast" with excellent aesthetics. Included below are images from the projects.
Several images are provided below that showcase the construction process.
